Take a golf-ball-sized portion of air-dry clay and knead it in your hands for 2-3 minutes until it's soft, smooth, and pliable. If the clay feels dry or crumbly, add a tiny drop of water and continue kneading. This makes it easier to roll and shape.
Place the conditioned clay between two sheets of parchment paper. Using a rolling pin or smooth bottle, roll the clay to an even thickness of about 1/8 inch (3mm). Thinner clay makes lighter earrings but is more fragile; thicker clay is sturdier but heavier. Check thickness by gently peeling back the top paper.

Using jewelry pliers, open a jump ring by twisting it sideways (never pull apart). Thread it through the hole in your earring, then twist it closed again using the pliers. Repeat for the second earring. Make sure the rings are completely closed so earrings won't fall off.
Open the loop at the bottom of an earring hook using jewelry pliers. Slide the jump ring (with attached earring) onto the hook's loop. Close the loop securely by twisting it back into position. Repeat for the second earring. Your handmade clay earrings are now ready to wear!
