You need a 30cm wooden dowel, approximately 50m of 3mm natural cotton macramé cord, a measuring tape, scissors, and a comb for fringing.
Cut 16 cords, each 2.5m long. Fold each cord in half and attach to the dowel using a lark's head knot: loop the folded end over the dowel, pull the tails through the loop, and tighten. You now have 32 working cords.
Work in groups of 4 cords. Tie square knots: take the left outer cord over the two centre cords and under the right cord, then bring the right cord under the centres and through the loop on the left. Pull tight. Repeat for a full row.
Alternate the groupings on the next row (offset by 2 cords) to create a diamond or net pattern. Continue for 20–25cm depth. Vary knot spacing for an open look.
Trim the bottom cords to an even V-shape or straight line. Unravel each cord end and comb out to create a fluffy fringe. Attach a hanging loop of cord to the dowel to display.
