Cut two rectangles of canvas fabric 40×45cm for the body. Cut two strips 65×8cm for the handles. Press all pieces with an iron.
Fold each handle strip in half lengthwise, wrong sides together. Open out, fold each long edge to the centre crease, then fold in half again so all raw edges are hidden. Pin and sew along both long edges 3mm from the edge.
On the right side of each body piece, pin the handle ends 10cm in from each side edge, with the raw ends aligned to the top of the fabric. Sew across each handle end with a 1cm seam, then sew an X-box for strength.
Place the two body pieces right sides together. Sew around the sides and bottom with a 1.5cm seam allowance, leaving the top open. Backstitch at each end to reinforce.
Turn the bag right side out. Fold the top edge down 1cm then another 2cm to create a hem. Press and sew all the way around, close to the folded edge. Turn right side out and push out the corners.
