Collect Fresh Flowers

Choose small, flat flowers and leaves that aren't too thick or bulky. Look for pansies, daisies, lavender, ferns, or small wildflowers. Pick them on a dry day when there's no moisture on the petals. You'll need 3-5 flowers or petals per bookmark.

Prepare Flowers for Pressing

Trim off thick stems and remove any damaged petals. If flowers are bulky, you can gently separate petals to press individually. Arrange them face-down if you want to preserve the brightest color.

Set Up Pressing Station

Open a heavy book (like a dictionary or phone book) to the middle. Place a sheet of parchment paper on the page to protect the book from moisture stains.

Arrange and Press Flowers

Place your flowers flat on the parchment paper, spacing them apart so they don't touch. Cover with another sheet of parchment paper. Close the book gently and add more heavy books on top for extra weight.

Wait for Flowers to Dry

Leave the flowers pressed for 1-2 weeks in a dry location. Don't peek! Opening the book early can ruin the flowers. They're ready when completely flat and papery to the touch.

Cut Bookmark Base

Using scissors or a paper cutter, cut your cardstock into a rectangle measuring 2 inches wide by 6 inches tall. You can round the corners with scissors for a softer look if desired.

Design Your Layout

Gently remove the pressed flowers from the book using tweezers. Arrange them on your cardstock bookmark without gluing yet. Try different layouts until you find one you love. Leave a small border around the edges.

Glue Flowers in Place

Using a small paintbrush, apply a tiny dot of white glue to the back of each flower. Gently press onto the cardstock in your chosen arrangement. Use tweezers for precise placement. Let dry for 10 minutes.

Prepare Laminating Sheets

Cut your self-adhesive laminating sheet to slightly larger than your bookmark (about 2.5 inches by 6.5 inches). You'll need two pieces—one for the front and one for the back.

Apply Front Lamination

Peel back a small corner of the laminating sheet. Line it up carefully over your bookmark, then slowly peel and smooth from one end to the other. Use a credit card or your fingers to push out any air bubbles as you go.

Apply Back Lamination

Flip the bookmark over and repeat the laminating process on the back side. Make sure both sides are completely sealed with no air bubbles or wrinkles.

Trim Excess Lamination

Use scissors to carefully trim around the bookmark, leaving a small sealed border (about 1/8 inch) of lamination around all edges. This prevents the layers from separating over time.

Punch and Add Ribbon

Use a hole punch to make a hole centered at the top of the bookmark, about 1/4 inch from the edge. Cut a 6-inch piece of ribbon, fold it in half, and thread the loop through the hole. Pull the ribbon ends through the loop to secure.

Final Touches

Trim the ribbon ends at an angle to prevent fraying. Your pressed flower bookmark is complete and ready to use or gift! The lamination will protect the flowers and keep your bookmark durable for years.
